About Asbestos Register UK

Asbestos Register UK lists every contractor on the Health & Safety Executive’s asbestos licence register — 337 companies at the last update. It’s free to search, and no company can pay to be added, removed, or ranked higher.
Why This Exists
It is a criminal offence to carry out licensable asbestos work without an HSE licence. So the first question anyone should ask a contractor is whether they hold one — and until now there was no straightforward public place to check.
The official register is published as a spreadsheet. It’s accurate and it’s free, but it isn’t searchable by where you live, and it doesn’t tell you anything beyond the licence. The trade bodies list their own members only. General trade directories carry a handful of asbestos firms between them.
We take the official register, keep it current, and make it searchable by county, city, and licence type. That’s the whole idea.
Where the Data Comes From
Every listing starts from the CONIAC register, the list of licensed asbestos contractors maintained under the Health & Safety Executive. We re-check it weekly and never delete a company on the strength of a single missing entry.
We add contact details and location data from public sources so a listing is useful, but we don’t alter licence information. The full process, including what we do when a licence is renewed under a new number, is set out in how we verify listings.
How the Register Is Funded
Being listed is free and always has been. Nothing on this site is a paid placement, and the order companies appear in is not for sale.
We earn money when someone asks us for a quote. If you submit an enquiry form or call the number on this site, your details go to an HSE-licensed contractor partner who pays us for that introduction. That’s our only revenue from the site.
Two things follow from that, and we’d rather say them plainly. An enquiry made through this site goes to our partner, not to whichever company you were reading about. And the 337 listings in the register are not affected by it — they come from the HSE register whether a company works with us or not. If you want a specific contractor, their own phone number is on their listing. Use it.
What We Are Not
- Not a trade body or accreditation scheme. We have no members and we award nothing.
- Not affiliated with the HSE, ARCA, UKATA or IATP. We publish HSE data; we don’t speak for the HSE or any trade association.
- Not a recommendation. A licence means a company is legally permitted to do the work. It is not a review, and we don’t inspect anyone’s workmanship.
- Not a substitute for checking. Before work starts, ask to see the licence and confirm it on the official register.
